So I’ve gotten a new side arm, of course an XP 45. and now it’s time to get a new tactical light and laser. So this time around I’ve discovered a new laser/light combination that I have not seen before. Viridian, this company makes a very nice laser sighting system, they are unique because they are one of the few companies that use green lasers. After doing my research collectively, I’ve been really impressed by the performance of the X5L. Up until now I have always used Surefire, of course Surefire has already been combat tested and is a great tactical light. So I’ve had a very hard time choosing which sighting system to buy, so I had to do a side-by-side.
the Surefire X 400. has a maximum output of 110 lm(lumens), as a runtime of 2.4 hours, a weight with batteries of 4.4 ounces. the X.400 has a durable, and low-profile laser integrated under the body. The laser is red, with a wavelength of 635 nm. Laser features a patented screw system, that does not back out during recoil, therefore please are rarely has to be re-zeroed. you can read more about the surefire X400 weapon light here.

The Viridian X5L features an extremely bright green laser coupled with an LED tactical light in a compact design. The reason for a green laser is green is closer to the center of the visible spectrum, at 532 Nanometers, so it’s easier for our eyes to perceive the color vs. a red laser at 635 Nanometers. In fact, a green laser can appear as much as 50 times brighter than the red equivalent and as can be seen from the below charts 532 nm is the ideal wavelength to maximize visibility during day or night. So the Viridian has its strong points as well.

After I get my Viridian in, I’ll finish my comparison.
***Update*** So after trying out the new Viridian laser and light here are my conclusions:
The Surefire performed awesome as always, We actually did a live fire room clear several times, I switched out lights after 5 cycles. The Surefire’s light was white, bright and tight, very very effective, but after using the Viridian Green laser, I realized the Viridian’s lazer was soo much brighter than Surefire’s, but the Viridians light was not as great as Surefire’s. So all in all, during close quarters combat, room clearing, or home defense, I’m choosing the Veridian. Although Surefire will always have a place in my heart. <3
